Exercise Tips For Busy Moms

You’re a busy mom; we get it! Fitting exercise into your daily routine is difficult. With the mountain of chores you need to do, and with the daily demands of being a mother to cope with, you aren’t going to have a lot of time to get to the gym or any of those things that you used to do before your kids arrived.

But here’s the thing. Exercise needs to be your number one priority. The more you do, the better you will feel. You will have more energy to play with your kids. The endorphin rush will steady your nerves when your stress levels rise. And you will be less likely to fall ill through exhaustion, as exercise can lift your moods and bolster your immune system.

So, where to start? Here are some tips to help you.

Alter your mindset

Don’t feel guilty for wanting to take time out to exercise. Don’t tell yourself ‘you’re too busy.’ As we said, exercise needs to be a priority in your life, so you need to switch your thinking. If you need to hire a childminder so you can get to the gym, then so be it. If you need to juggle around your busy schedule to allow time to exercise, then do so. No matter how busy you are, and no matter how many demands motherhood places on you, you need to counter any little voice inside your head that stops you from keeping fit.

Make a plan

After altering your mindset, you can now plan where and how you are going to keep fit. Think about the free time you have in the day, such as when your children are asleep or at school. Think about the places that offer free childcare while you exercise, such as your gym or local community centre. Look at your schedule and find ways to move things around to free up more of your time. Make a plan, take actionable steps, and get back into what exercise suits you.

Create An Indoor Exercise Routine

You might not have the time to go to the gym on a regular level, but you can still take time to work out during the day in your home. When the children are still asleep, you can get through your workouts first thing in the morning. Not only will this boost your fitness levels and preserve your health, but it will also give you the energy you need to deal with the various demands of your kids when they eventually drag themselves out of bed. And as as you’re going about your days, there are other ways to keep fit at home that can easily fit in with your usual schedule of chores and child-raising.

Involve your kids in your fitness plan

You aren’t the only one who needs to keep fit. You need to consider your kids as well, especially if they are more prone to indoor gymnastics with their thumbs (playing video games) than actual exercise outdoors. So, for their sake as well as your own, find activities that will motivate all of you to exercise more. It could be something as simple as going to the park and playing tag or frisbee, or you may want to take up a fun hobby together, such as playing a sport or going rock climbing. You will all benefit from the exercise, and whatsmore, you will also have more time to bond together as a family.

Finally

Never be too busy to cancel any kind of exercise from your life. There are all kinds of benefits that can’t be disputed, so it’s in your best interests (as well as your kids) to figure out a plan of action today.
