I think it has been about 3 years since my daughter has been to the doctor. Does this make me a bad parent? I just don't see the need to take her every time she is running a fever, and well she was all up to date on shots and all that good stuff, so her seeing a doctor was really no concern to me. That and my own mental issues, caused me from picking up the phone and getting her in. Well I knew she was needing to get her well child check up, with her doing public schooling online. I made her an appointment at a doctor I new nothing about, but heard many good things. I have to say I like her doctor, and she actually explains things to my daughter, instead of talking to me as if my child isn't there. Recently, my daughter has been weighing herself almost daily. She is becoming obsessed with the scales, I guess I am to blame since I am over weight, and well I am obsessed with the scales. While we were in the doctors office I brought this up to the doctor, and she punched in all … [Read more...]
Singing Competitions
The other day I was watching the news, and Memphis was holding a singing audition. The winner of "Memphis Idol" would get in to see the judges for American Idol try outs in Louisiana. I have noticed over the years American Idol has become a very successful show, and a lot of great talent has been discovered. I would say my all time favorites are Carrie Underwood, and Scotty. With this success, brings news stations to hold their own singing competitions, to find the best to represent their home towns. Not long ago they showed who was getting into the auditions in Louisiana, I personally didn't think she was that great, but who am I to say if she is good or not. I will leave that up to the judges. I am said Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Taylor will no longer be judges, but it is, what it is right? Anyway when they introduced the girl that would be getting a free trip to the front row, it was no surprise to me that she had a singing coach. While it is great these young kids get … [Read more...]
School Starts Soon
If you are in the South, I can almost bet that Summer break is almost over. I am going to be honest, and I am not ready for it to be over yet. With my daughter homeschooling, we will be trying a new avenue in our schooling. I am currently working to get her enrolled into Tennessee Virtual Academy. I am excited about this move, I like the idea of her having an actual teacher, and me being her coach. This will bring a lot of anxiety off me, every year I worry if I am teaching my daughter the things she needs to be learning. Let's be honest, I know I am teaching her the main things of life, which are how to raise a family, how to budget, and how to succeed in the world. However, the school systems teach a lot more, me personally I think some of the things taught are not needed, and more around family, and everyday life it. A lot of the reasons we decided to home school our daughter was because of my anxiety, taking her to and from school was becoming to much on me, and the fact she … [Read more...]
Scholastic Printables Great For Home Schoolers
We have been homeschooling our daughter since she was in kindergarten. One thing I like about homeschooling her is all the options we have. We are not set to only one topic, and when she starts having issues in other areas we can work harder on that topic before we move on. One of my favorites sites is Scholastic. They offer thousands of printable worksheets, that will allow us to mix and match until she gets the hang of what we are working on. Another thing I like is the fact they do have worksheets for all subjects which we like to use throughout our schooling. However, you don't need to be a homeschooler to use these worksheets. They can be used by both parents and teachers with children in grades Pre-K to 8th. My favorite is the math worksheets, Gillian has been having issues with multiplication so when I searched for multiplication worksheet printables it brought me to Scholastic's and I was hooked. When we were in Michigan I was even printing these off and letting my nieces … [Read more...]
Viacom and Directv Head to Head
So what is everyone intact on Viacom demanding their channels be pulled by Directv? I know many people are putting blame on directv, however, if you dig into this whole situation deeper you will see viacom is the one to blame. Within the next few years, most people will be streaming all their shows online, so Directv is trying to not only help you, but also themselves by trying to come up with a deal where you the consumer, can purchase ONLY the channels you watch. We had Directv at one time, however, we didn't feel we should have to pay for all those channels we didn't watch when we only watched a certain few. However, those certain few were on the most expensive package deal you could get. We have not had Directv in almost a year, we do have Netflix, and Hulu Desktop, and well we know we can always go to the network sites, and often watch some of our favorite channels. From my understanding Disney just came out with an app to let you watch their shows on your Apple products. I … [Read more...]
The Digest Diet!
I will be starting the digest diet soon, and I have to say I am super excited. This is the only "diet" I have found that actually teaches you. My daughter was going through the book the other day, and was wanting to know if I could make her a fade away shake, she said it looks really good. When I told her why I was going to be drinking them her response was "Yea, I know but this looks so yummy I just want to try it." I will of course be blogging my results on The Neat Things in Life, and if you follow me, you will also find some great giveaways! Weight loss has always been a big struggle for me, however, I am down 16 pounds... woohoo 16 pounds lost all on my own! BUT I will not lie, I have lost track, and I found it to be super easy to lose track when you are not logging everything you eat, so if you are serious about losing weight, log everything. Workouts, food, water EVERYTHING, if you do you will find great results. … [Read more...]
Password Guessers
Someone is trying like crazy to gain access to Dizzy Mommy Chronicles, I am not sure why... However, within the last 24 hours I have had over 10 failed login attempts. This is where I stress if you are on wordpress to get Limited Login Attempts. After so many tries the system bans them from the site. This means they go get on another proxy and try again. I wonder if there's a plugin to deny those using proxies access to my sites. Hmm that is something I will have to look into. If one needs to hide behind a proxy to look at my site then they don't need to be here... I am also going to change the limits on how many failed attempts one can have before they get the boot. It gets really annoying when someone tries to gain access... What sort of plugins do y'all use to help protect your sites? … [Read more...]
You Would Think I Was The Computer Repair Person
My husband and I know a lot about computers, matter of fact we once was going to open up a computer store in our home town, we had everything all planned out. Then like everything else, it crashed. We are even listed in the yellow pages under Computer Repair Services. Thankfully, we no longer have that number so we don't get any calls. I remember one time we were sleeping and the phone rang, I answered it, and it was someone wanting to know what we charged for replacing a hard drive. One thing about being married to a man that is brilliant, is when I cannot figure out what the heck went wrong on my computer I get free IT Support. My husband and I end up butting heads a lot in this area. I like to keep trying to figure it out, while he is getting mad because I am getting mad. Make since? Yea, I didn't think so. When he takes over to try to fix the problems that are giving me a headache, I get frustrated with him because he is to slow! Often times this leads to us bickering back … [Read more...]
Tasty Thursday: Turkey Stirfry and Rice
Weight loss can be tricky, finding the perfect combo in making a healthy meal can be fun though. I guess we can call this a turkey stirfry, it was a very big hit with my family... Serves 4 Ingredients: 1 pound lean ground turkey 1 bag of mixed veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots) 1 onion diced 1 can of cilantro and lime tomatoes Garlic to taste cilantro to taste Sriracha 2 cups Whole Grain Rice First you want to cook up the ground turkey, once the turkey is cooked you will add the onions, garlic, cilantro, tomatoes, and mixed veggies. While this is cooking cook your whole grain rice. Then add the sriracha, i suggest only adding a small amount this stuff can be spicy! Once everything is cooked serve over the rice. This makes a very nice healthy meal, and it's so tasty! Cooking healthy is still bit of a challenge to me, I am experimenting with different ingredients to see what we like and what we don't like. This one happened to be a win for the whole … [Read more...]
The Ins and Outs About “Diets”
How many of you have at one point in your life turned to a diet to help you lose weight? How many of you that have turned to a diet to lose weight gained all if not more of that weight you lost back? Me, Me, ME! I don't know how many times I put my body through the ringer on a diet only for it to come right back after I was done. From my experience most diets are junk, the reason being they don't teach you how to eat right, or how to maintain your weight. Instead they show you how to starve, and deprive your body of the nutrients it needs. Take the HCG diet for example... on this diet for three days you fill your body will all sorts of fatty, greasy foods, you fill up on all these to the point your going to throw up. After the 3 days, you start to starve your body. You jump from thousands of calories, to 500. You are very limited on what you can eat, you're also very limited on what you can do. After you are off the diet, you were so deprived of the things you loved before you go … [Read more...]
