Many times I have found myself cringing at the fact of having to purchase a new pair of eyeglasses. For those of you that wear glasses you know what I am talking about, every year we have to go in get an exam, and pick our frames. For those of us with no insurance this can be extremely pricey. Luckily for us, there are companies out there that can help us. Take Zenni Optical for instance. They have their own line, thus removing the middleman and making their eye wear cheaper. Get Him A Watch This Holiday Season
It seems watches are becoming a thing of the past. With our technology advancing it is giving us other ways to keep track of time. Most carry cell phones, tablets, or even ipod's around with them. This making the watch pretty much obsolete. Those that still wear watches, usually wear them because they are sentimental. My husband has an old pocket watch he carries with him, because it was given to him by his grandfather. Although, we do have other means of keeping track of time, watches make a great gift, and automatic watches are more useful then what you may think. How many times has the power went out? I cannot count on one hand how many times our power has went out, and all our devices we use on a everyday basis went dead, and we had no clue what time it was. This is when watches come in handy! So, this holiday season think about getting him a watch. When the lights go out, and all those power devices are drained, you will be glad you did! How many of you still wear … [Read more...]
Getting Those Carpets Cleaned
One thing I notice every holiday season, is the beating my carpet takes. When having friends and family over there is going to be some plates that fall. I have tried year after year to prevent this from happening, however, it never fails. After all my guest leave I am left giving my carpets a good carpet cleaning. When my husband worked as a custodial he would bring home one of the commercial vacuum cleaners, and we would vacuum every inch of our home, at least twice a year. We would go from the top of the home and work our way to the bottom. This made vacuuming and dusting a lot easier through-out the year. This also help remove all those nasty spider webs. I have learned that floor care is a must, if you want to keep your carpets looking new. I have had friends and family compliment me on my carpet through-out my home. I also try to go with darker colors, so if something that stains gets spilled on the floor it will "blend" in better. If you do have small children, and are … [Read more...]
Geocaching Fun Is All Around You
Recently, I was introduced to Geocaching. If you re unsure what geocaching is, let me explain. Geocaching is a world-wide treasure hunt, and it played by millions of people all over the world. People take GPS units such as the geomate.jr, and they download the waypoints from geocaching.com. Once they have the "cache" coordinates, they head out to find the cache. This activity is great for those that love the outdoors, I have found it's away to bring my family closer together, give us exercise, and just plain old fun outside of the home. We have found ourselves getting up and hitting the road just to find our next cache. Along the way we find cool collectables, and other items. Geocaches, are often hidden in locations such as trees, parks, lakes, and other neat locations. Often times geocaches, are also filled with trinkets, however, some just have log books in them. If you have not tried geocaching, I highly recommend it. This is one way to get your family away from the … [Read more...]

Here Comes Santa Claus!
Thanksgiving is now a thing of the past, and in a few short weeks we will all hear Santa's sleigh! Who is all ready for Christmas? I am as ready as I will get. I am not as excited about this year as I have been about the past, I guess a lot that has been going on, has put me a bit under the celebrating times. I am thinking about not even putting a tree up this year. Of course, this was after discussing it with my daughter. With being in a smaller place and not having much room, it was the best thing we could think of. I am going to put a small one in her room, but with her not believing in Santa no more it makes things a bit easier. Next year I am going all out, I will be doing the house, and the tree. I will have a big dinner, and have my sister and her babies over. I am hoping after the new year things will start looking up for it. I hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving, and hopefully 2012 will be a better year for all! … [Read more...]
Computer Training For Dummies
How many of you remember the first time you ever got on a computer? It was 1995 I believe, and it was our lunch break, a bunch of us girls decided we wanted to check out the computer our teacher had in class. She let us connect it to the internet, and we started chatting away with some boys from another school. We thought that was the coolest thing ever. I remember we would go to school early and get on the computers in the library. Back then we really didn't have much for computer training, matter of fact we were the ones teaching the teachers how to use them. Now days they have classes one can take to learn more about computers, and books for those that still are not getting the hang of things. I have taught so many how to do certain things on the computer and online, it just all comes natural to me. One thing people don't realize is, in order to learn something new you have to try. I have ran into a lot of family who will simply not even try. What is the point of learning … [Read more...]

Security At Big Events
If you have ever been to any sort of big event, you know how important it is to have some sort of crowd control. Whether it be security guards walking around, or even police officers on call. You can never be to prepared when it comes to these events. I have been to several Music in the park type events, and have always seen some type of barricades. Having control over the crowd is a must, many people like to see action at these events, so fights and riots can possibly break out. Specially if they're serving alcoholic beverages. Many event planners will make sure to have stanchions in place for better crowd control. How many of you have been to an event where they have such barricades in place? If not maybe you have watched an award shows on TV such as the Grammys and seen the velvet rope keeping excited fans at bay. If they didn't have such props in place the actors probably would stay at home. If you are every going to throw your own event, it is important to take proper … [Read more...]
