Vintage Style Nursery Ideas

Today I want to share with you some easy ways to bring vintage style to your nursery. Whether you want a full blown vintage nursery or if you prefer simple vintage touches, this should give you plenty of inspiration. With vintage style still as popular as ever, there are plenty of places to find the right furniture and decor, for any budget. Here are just a few ideas to get you started on the nursery of your dreams.

Choosing a theme is a brilliant idea. This will stop your nursery from looking confused or mismatched. If you’re having a boy why not choose cowboys or robots? For a girl how about a woodland theme? I’ve seen some beautiful hot air balloon and circus themes, that would work well for either a boy or a girl. The vintage map theme, shown below is another great idea. You could sign up to Pinterest and create a board of nursery ideas you like. There are thousands of options to choose from this could help you decide on the perfect theme. There are no rules on how much you feature your theme. It could just be small accents or a huge wall mural. Choose whatever suits you.

The focal point of any nursery will always be the cot. As much as I love vintage furniture, I think for your baby’s first bed it would be wise to buy a new cot, rather than find an older one. While there is nothing wrong with using a vintage crib, you can’t always guarantee the quality and wear. Especially if you are buying it online. This also applies to changing tables. There are loads of retailers who offer brand new changing tables, cot beds and baby cribs, that could easily fit into a vintage style nursery. Using vintage patterned bedding will provide your cot with that vintage feel instantly.

For storage and decor why not check out your local vintage and antiques fairs. You are bound to find inexpensive furniture, that you can paint and distress to give a real worn feel. Or try covering the insides in a vintage style wallpaper? Always make sure you choose something that is relevant to your theme and colour scheme. Vintage fairs are full of knick knacks you can use to dress your nursery. I find when decorating a room it’s the quirky items that bring it all together. Look for kitsch ornaments and old board games. There is often a lot of handmade items available at these kinds of fairs too. Look for garlands and mobiles or knitted blankets. These will make lovely additions to your baby’s room.

Your vintage style nursery will definitely need some fun, retro wall art. Find old illustrated children’s books in charity shops and frame the pages you like. Or why not frame wrapping paper or fabric? Another idea is to cluster different sized mirrors together, to make an eye catching focus point. Your theme will be useful for this part too.

I think the best way to make the vintage style nursery is to be creative and think outside the box. It is down to your own personal taste and preference. Now go and have fun creating!
