Kicking a Bad Habit

People start smoking for many different reasons, sometimes it is to look cool in front of their friends other times it's just to see what it's like. Once one starts smoking it is often hard to kick the habit. My husband has been smoking since he was about 14 years old, I started when I was 19. My reason for picking up a cigarette was to try and release some stress. At the time I was going through a lot in life and I was having a hard time dealing with those issues. So I turned to cigarettes. At first they gave me a bad headache, but they helped keep my mind of the things going on around me. I tried to quit smoking several different times. However, the addiction was to much and once I quit I would end up starting back up again. I quit while I was pregnant for my daughter. About a month after she was born I started again, depression sunk in and I was in need of my nicotine. It took me almost 7 years from starting again to put the cigarette down and never pick it up again. I … [Read more...]

Mamavation Monday

With the hustle & bustle of "Back to School" we as Mom's have a tendency to forget about ourselves. Oh who am I kidding, we always seem to forget about ourselves, but it seems worse this time of year! Summer seems to bring the worst out in our family, we get lazy, just enjoying the break from the go-go-go of the rest of the year. We eat things we shouldn't,and that's a hard habit to break. School, work, sports, homework, house work... it seems never ending. But I have made it my goal this year to keep my family active and get some me time. When I work out and take care of myself, I take care of my family better. I have more patience, I'm more relaxed, and honestly more happy. Not only am I making life easier on all of us by making sure to take the time, but I am making sure I am being an example for my children. This week my oldest kids start back to school, next week my son starts preschool. My husband will be coming off the road; for those of you that didn't … [Read more...]

Keeping Track of the Kids

Soon all the kids will be back in school and all those extra school activities will be going on such as sports, drama, band, and choir. We as parents need a quick way to get in touch with our children. I know when I was in school, it often took the office a good 15 minutes to locate me if my mom called. That was back when there was no such thing as a cell phone. Now there are so many different cell phone carriers, and plans it makes it easy for us parents to keep up with our children when they're not at home, or we are not at home. Coupons by Answers has several great coupon codes to make sending the kids back to school a little less stressful, and a bit cheaper on the wallet. When it comes to getting your child a cell phone, I would recommend getting a prepaid one, this will assure you that they will not be running up your phone bill, and if their not keeping up with their responsibilities you can always not purchase them minutes. I have heard many great things about Straight … [Read more...]

Gallery Direct: Art the way you like it

I don't know about you, but I LOVE to decorate. I am constantly pinning cool decor ideas online, browsing local stores and flea markets for those unique, awesome items that will give my house some flair. I had the opportunity to choose some items from Gallery Direct , and let me tell you trying to decide on which items was the hardest part! Not only do they offer some unique art pieces, but you can also submit your own photographs and make your own art  canvas! The first piece I picked was for my living room. We are in the process of changing color themes and I am in love with basic black and white. When I saw the Bougainvillea by Michael Joseph I couldn't resist.  We are still in the process of painting, so excuse my tan walls - but the picture just POPS. I love the canvas print, the details to the picture and of course the black and white! I decided to put my Dad to work on some photo's he had taken of my 3 kids, and my nephew. My Dad is a photographer, and he absolutely … [Read more...]

Mamavation Monday

For those of you that don't know, I am a sister in the online community called Mamavation.  Mamavation™ is a online docudrama and weight loss support group for moms in social media. It’s both a campaign and Virtual Sorority™ in one. SO each Monday, you will see me posting my "Mamavation Monday" post, with updates on my families health/ weight loss goals, progress, and downfalls. This is to help keep me on track and also just maybe be an inspiration for others. The hardest thing about maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle is life. It has a tendency to get in the way, and mess up your plans, but that is life right?? Rolling with the punches, learning to "get 'er done" no matter what. This is my most difficult challenge. With a full-time job, 3 kids, and a traveling husband, it makes it hard sometimes to stay focused. As many of you know I started back on the Weight Watcher's  point system. I LOVE it, and if you use it like it should be, then you will be successful. This past … [Read more...]

Pilot Pens Review

UPDATE: It was brought to my attention the ink disappears after awhile, I reached out to the reps, and got the tip to make it reappear! Place in the freezer for awhile, and the ink will reappear. I am what one would call an ink pen hoarder! I love ink pens, and when I am at the bank or the doctor’s office if I like the way the pen writes, I will ask if I can keep it! Yes, my obsession with pens is that bad. So when asked if I were interested in reviewing the new FriXion erasable ink pens by Pilot, I had to say yes. We were sent samples of the G2 gel Ink pens, FriXion erasable Ink pens, and the eco-friendly recycled B2P pen! When the Pilot ink pens came in the mail for review I had to check out the FriXion erasable ones. I wrote my name and erased it; both my husband and I were in awe. He took to twitter telling everyone how awesome the pens were, and started to show it off to his friends. I had to show our daughter this neat line of pens, and let her know she can now use the … [Read more...]

Things to do in Cincinnati – Part I

My kids LOVE to keep me busy. As soon as Thursday evening hits, the kids are asking "Mom, what are we doing this weekend?" As a family on a budget, I do my best to find deals, coupons and freebies to help 'entertain' the family on the weekends. One of my best investments this year, was purchasing a pass for the Cincinnati Zoo  Now I may be a bit bias, but Cincinnati has one of the BEST zoo's in the country. The open exhibits, the range of animals and attractions, you could go every weekend and experience something new. *Photographs compliments of http://rogerrouse.com My favorite exhibit to visit is the  gorilla's. They are very interactive, and hilarious to watch! They also have the new Cat Canyon Exhibit open, that my kids have been looking forward to all summer.. oh and  zoo babies you can visit in the nursery! The Children's petting zoo is located within the heart of the park, with a playground and animal encounters at Spaulding Children's Zoo. My kids love the … [Read more...]

Family Doctor, Dentist, Eye Doctor Oh My!

My husband dislikes going to the doctor. So when we got back to the South and we went to yet again get our Tennessee Driver License, and the lady told my husband he had to go get his eye's checked before could get a state license, he was pretty mad. Matter of fact he informed the lady he would not be back. Well, he was right he hasn't been back. However, it's only because we lack funds to get the eye test done. When we do have the money to get it we will be hitting up Zenni Optical. The have a great selection of men's eye wear for great prices. Chance are my husband will only need the glasses when he is driving. I honestly don't think he needs them often times he can see things better than I can and I have glasses. If you have ever been to DMV they make the images blurry on purpose. I was having to squint when I was reading mine, and like I said I wear glasses. If I would have known the little trip to Michigan was only going to be a waste of time and money we would have stayed … [Read more...]
